Hello and welcome to Dollar Habits.
I was born and raised in Southern California, aka the land of shiny new things, where I currently reside with my wife and our 5 boys. We have been married for almost 7 years and together for 12. We were high school sweethearts and started dating at 17.
Okay, so only 2 of our 5 boys are of the human variety. The other three take the form of two Labrador Retrievers, Luke and Leroy, and a betta fish named Dolphin the Whale (gotta love a 3-year-old’s imagination).
We are a one-income, millennial family navigating the financial challenges of raising a young family, paying off debt and saving for retirement. In short, we are trying our best to strike a balance between living for today and saving for tomorrow.
I recently turned the big 3-0 and I am still trying to wrap my mind around how that happened. I sure don’t feel like I am 30. I have a bachelor’s degree in business and earned my MBA while working full-time and going to school at night. As a result of my time spent in school, like a lot of my peers, I graduated with a solid amount of student loan debt, $63,338.11 to be exact.
I have always been entrepreneurial and have even started a couple (failed) businesses of my own. It’s not failure if you learn from it, right? I have recently turned my focus to creating online, lifestyle businesses to create side income and to build the lifestyle I desire for myself and my family.
I recently learned about the online early retirement community (as per usual, I’m a little late to the party) and have been pretty obsessed with it ever since. We have a long road ahead of us, but our family has adopted the financial independence / early retirement (FIRE) battle cry as our own.
I am in no way, shape or form, and by no stretch of the imagination, a financial professional or expert, but I am uber passionate about personal finance and helping others reach their money goals. At a minimum, and if nothing else, I hope to at least help people avoid making the same mistakes I have.
Thanks for taking the time to check out Dollar Habits. I hope you’ll come along on this adventure with me.
